Delete your Tether account

This page explains how to request deletion of your Tether account and the data associated with it. You do not need to sign in, and you do not need to reinstall the app.

Request deletion by email

Write to privacy@mytether.co from the email address on your Tether account, asking us to delete your account.

We reply to the address registered on the account to confirm the request before anything is deleted, so please send it from that address if you still can. If you cannot, tell us which address the account uses and we will work with you to verify it.

We acknowledge requests within 5 working days and start the deletion once it is confirmed.

If you still have the app

Deleting from inside the app is faster and needs no email exchange, because you are already signed in:

  1. Open Tether and go to Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Tap Delete Account and confirm.

What happens after you ask

  1. A 30-day grace period starts. Your account still works, but new sharing and transfers from it are blocked.
  2. You can change your mind at any point in those 30 days — from Settings → Privacy & Security in the app, or by replying to us at privacy@mytether.co. After the 30 days, deletion runs and cannot be undone.
  3. At the end of the 30 days your account is deleted and your personal data is erased, including your photographs and the files behind them, your face-recognition data, and your name, email address and profile.
  4. We email you a confirmation when it is done.

If you subscribe to Tether

You do not need to cancel first. Deleting your account cancels any active Tether subscription as part of the same process. A subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play is managed by Apple or Google rather than by us — cancel that one in your store account settings, since deleting your Tether account cannot stop a charge that Apple or Google is collecting.

What is deleted, and what is kept

Some things deliberately survive deletion, and it is better that you know before you ask than after:

  • Memories and books you shared with other people stay with them. Anything you gave to a person or to a group becomes theirs permanently, photographs included. If you want something withdrawn, unshare it before you request deletion — after the 30 days there is no way to reverse it.
  • A record that the account existed is kept in an anonymised form, with your name and email removed, so that content other people now own does not break.
  • Our security and compliance audit log is retained, as is the transaction record held by our payment and printing providers, who keep it for their own tax and legal obligations.
